Your nephew is wrong. Your SEO cheat sheet bookmark from 2001 is wrong. *  Your fly-by-night SEO consultant is definitely  wrong, and she/he should know it - you're probably getting scammed.

The simple truth is that meta keywords do not add any direct SEO value to your site. It's common knowledge that  Google doesn't pay attention to them , and  Bing has said it checks them  - but only to see if you're spamming.

There are arguments in both camps, but the vast majority today agree that adding keywords is not only a worthless endeavor, it may even carry risks (beyond Bing penalties, it can offer competitors easy insight).
